Overview
Professional Network Good Governance provides an
opportunity for governance leaders, including elected
political representatives from national, provincial and
local levels and public sector managers to visit and
explore the legislative, judicial, executive and service
delivery institutions involved with South African
governance. Meet the people who are leading and managing
the sustained success of the South African Constitution
and institutions.
Given the South African history of apartheid governance
the South African people were faced with many daunting
challenges to overcome the division in South Africa and
to create a visionary new South Africa. The creation of
the rainbow nation has been termed as a negotiated
revolution and a miracle. That may be so, but actually
it was and still remains very hard work done
continuously by South Africans under challenging
circumstances. Learn and experience the how South
Africans co-created a world renowned Constitution and
how they are now creatively learning how to the manage
institutions of the State for the benefit of the highly
diverse and previously divided South African population.
Given also that the South African economy is currently
growing at consistent and solid rates approaching 5% per
annum in a stable and soundly managed political and
macro economic environment and that South Africa hosts
the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final, there remains many
challenges and opportunities for good governance to make
a positive contribution to a better life for all.
Development is the consistent theme of the South African
governance institutions. Pro poor policies are pursued
and implemented. The policies and services have to
address the challenges in all the service delivery areas
including health, education, economic development,
criminal justice and infrastructure creation.
You can become part of this exciting and challenging
scenario. Professional Network Good Governance will
provide you with some of the keys to open the doors to
learn and gain from South African good governance
experiences. During some weeks in South Africa you will
be given learning and network opportunities to
